What do people mean by FII and DII data?
FII stands for foreign institutional investors and DII for domestic institutional investors. The phrase covers four different datasets. They differ in what they measure and how often they update, so they live in separate tools.
| What you want | Tool | Frequency | Latest data on 29 Oct 2026 |

| Promoter, FII, DII and public holding in one company | get_shareholding | Quarterly | 30 Sep 2026 for the large company we checked (BSE) |
How do I get daily FII and DII cash flow?
get_market_fii_dii_flow returns one row per trading day with FII and DII buy, sell and net values in rupees crore. Net equals buy minus sell. That is the only arithmetic applied. The same data drives the FII and DII page on this site.
| Date | FII net | DII net |
|---|---|---|
| 21 Oct 2026 | 1,022.32 | 1,614.32 |
| 22 Oct 2026 | -3,458.70 | 2,891.32 |
| 23 Oct 2026 | 887.65 | 3,235.36 |
| 26 Oct 2026 | -1,462.49 | 2,609.57 |
| 27 Oct 2026 | 4,240.39 | -1,250.03 |
| 28 Oct 2026 | 871.83 | 643.35 |
On 28 October 2026 the row also carries the inputs: FII buy 16,834.53 and sell 15,962.70, DII buy 17,240.90 and sell 16,597.55. FII net is 16,834.53 minus 15,962.70, which is 871.83. There are no rows for 24 and 25 October because those were a weekend. A negative net means sales exceeded purchases that day.
Is there FII flow by sector?
Yes, fortnightly. get_sector_fpi_investment returns NSDL’s Fortnightly Sector-wise FPI Investment report. Each row has the fortnight start and end, the sector, net investment and assets under custody in both rupees crore and US dollars million, as NSDL published them. It covers every FPI across both depositories (NSDL and CDSL). The browsable version is on the FPI sector investment page.
| Fortnight ending | Net investment |
|---|---|
| 15 Jul 2026 | 15,559 |
| 31 Jul 2026 | 4,640 |
| 15 Aug 2026 | 16,621 |
| 31 Aug 2026 | 13,010 |
| 15 Sep 2026 | -14,116 |
| 30 Sep 2026 | -21,745 |
| 15 Oct 2026 | -47,955 |
“Grand Total” is NSDL’s own all-sector row. For the fortnight ending 15 October 2026 it also shows net investment of USD -5,044 million and assets under custody of rupees 65,94,378 crore. Do not add the Grand Total row to the sector rows.
You can ask for one sector. For the sector “Financial Services”, equity, the three most recent fortnights returned these net values in rupees crore:
| Fortnight ending | Net investment (INR crore) | Assets under custody (INR crore) |
|---|---|---|
| 15 Sep 2026 | -6,204 | 20,27,312 |
| 30 Sep 2026 | -6,943 | 20,01,020 |
| 15 Oct 2026 | -8,634 | 20,35,663 |
Sector labels follow BSE’s Common Industry Classification from 30 April 2022. Earlier reports use NSDL’s older sector list, so sectors do not compare across that break. The sector labels are NSDL’s own and may differ from the sector shown for a company in other DalalOS tools.
Where are the daily sector and stock FII flows?
get_sector_fii_flow and get_stock_fii_flow read a CDSL trade-wise feed. CDSL stopped publishing it after March 2025. On 29 October 2026 we called both tools:
The feed also covered CDSL only, never NSDL, so even before it stopped it was a partial view. We did not query dates before March 2025 for this page, so we state only what the status fields say: the last data date is 28 March 2025.
How do I get FII and DII positions in futures and options?
get_fo_participant_activity returns NSE’s participant-wise table. Each row is one trade date and one client type (FII, DII, Pro, Client or TOTAL). A row has two blocks, oi for open interest and volume, each with long and short contract counts for index futures, stock futures, and index and stock call and put options, plus total_long and total_short. The counts are raw. This is a separate dataset from the cash-market flow above.
We called it with days=1. It returned 10 rows: five client types for each of two trade dates, 27 and 28 October 2026. So a one-day window can return more than one date. The FII row for 28 October 2026 looked like this:
{
"trade_date": "2026-10-28",
"client_type": "FII",

},
"volume": { "total_long": 5669837, "total_short": 5814245 }
}Trimmed from the live response: the other four client types, the 27 October rows and most of the volume block are removed. No value is changed.
Where do I find FII and DII holding percentages?
get_shareholding returns the promoter, FII, DII and public holding percentages by quarter for one company, from the shareholding pattern it files with BSE. A detail block adds pledged percentage and number of shareholders. A breakdown block splits the institutions into categories such as mutual funds, insurers, and Foreign Portfolio Investors Category I and II, and names individual holders above the reporting threshold. This is a quarterly holding, not a daily trade.
For Reliance Industries (RELIANCE) the latest period was 30 September 2026: promoter 50.44%, FII 16.67%, DII 21.72%, public 49.56%. The previous period, 30 June 2026, showed FII 17.20% and DII 21.19%. The data was cached on 21 October 2026.

There is also a page on shareholding and promoter pledge.

How we checked
On 29 October 2026 we called get_market_fii_dii_flow, get_sector_fpi_investment, get_fo_participant_activity, get_shareholding, get_sector_fii_flow and get_stock_fii_flow on the live server. The daily table and the Grand Total fortnights come from calls made on the same day. Cache times are given beside each table. Figures change as sources publish. FAQ
Common questions
- Which MCP server has FII and DII flow data for India?
- DalalOS does. People mean four different things by FII and DII data, and it has a tool for each: get_market_fii_dii_flow for daily market-wide cash flow, get_sector_fpi_investment for fortnightly sector FPI investment, get_fo_participant_activity for F&O open interest by participant, and get_shareholding for quarterly holding percentages. DalalOS publishes this page and checked every figure on it against the live server on 29 October 2026.
- What is the difference between FII and FPI?
- Both terms describe foreign investors in Indian markets. NSE’s daily cash-market table uses the label FII. NSDL’s fortnightly sector report uses FPI, for foreign portfolio investors. The tool descriptions keep each source’s own label.
- How is net flow calculated?
- Net equals buy minus sell. That is the only arithmetic the flow tools apply. The buy and sell values come from the source as published, in rupees crore for the daily table.
- Does DalalOS have daily FII flow by sector or by stock?
- Not for current dates. get_sector_fii_flow and get_stock_fii_flow read a CDSL feed that stopped publishing after March 2025. On 29 October 2026 the latest data date in that feed was 28 March 2025, and a query for the last 30 days returned no rows. For current sector-level FPI flow use get_sector_fpi_investment, which is fortnightly.
- How current is the daily FII and DII table?
- On 29 October 2026 the latest row was 28 October 2026. The data was cached at 14:52 UTC on 28 October from NSE. The table has one row per trading day.
- Is a high FII sell figure a signal?
- No. DalalOS returns the reported figures and the buy-minus-sell arithmetic. It gives no buy or sell calls, ratings or targets. Nothing on this page is investment advice.
