Price to book below 1 with ROE above 10%

Trading under book value while return on equity exceeds 10%.

Price to book compares the market price with the book value of equity on the balance sheet. A figure below 1 means the market values the company at less than its accounting net worth. Return on equity adds the other side: the profit earned on that equity over the trailing twelve months.

The screen needs both at once. Price to book below 1 on its own includes companies with losses, so the ROE floor of 10% keeps only those that earned a return on equity above that level.

Screen criteria

A company appears only when it meets every condition below. The figures are raw disclosed numbers or mechanically computed ratios; the definitions follow the ratio reference.

How to read this table

  • The P/B column is shown and the table is ordered by it, lowest first.
  • Book value is an accounting figure. Assets carried at historical cost, revaluations and write-downs all change it, so compare like with like when reading across sectors.
  • ROE is TTM net income over average equity, so a large buyback or a small equity base can raise it without a change in profit.
